Welcoming Front Door
I am a big fan of wreaths. I have many of them hung around the house. This is the view of the inside of our front door. I hung the baskets up out of the way by using a spring-loaded curtain rod. It does the trick nicely. I guess I truly am a pack-rat since one of the baskets is almost 30 years old. I carried it when I was a flower girl in my aunt's wedding when I was 7.
Let There Be Light!
I am a big fan of these little candle-bulb lamps. I have at least one in each room. I also love candles. This particular one smells of oatmeal cookies! The handsome devil in the background is my husband's grandfather. It is a beautiful picture taken at Old Sturbridge Village where he has been the tinsmith for the last two-plus decades!
The Catch-All Bench
It seems every trinket I get ends up here. I orignially bought this bench to use as a coffee table. It couldn't handle the amount of stuff we left on it. After my son almost tipped it a few times when he was a toddler, we banished it to a spot against a wall.
The TV's Hideaway
The TV armoir is where we display a picture of our wedding and my grandmother's wedding portrait.
A Mish-Mash of Country Accents
A little shelf that originally held baskets of hats and mittens found a new home in the living room under the barnwood Keeping Room sign. Now it holds books and candles and other trinkets. Whatever...it just fits.

This is a close up of the little shelf. My daughter loves the little houses and often takes them to play with.
Happy with Hand-Me-Downs
The end table and the rocking chair are just two examples of hand-me-downs we have received from our family.
Bittersweet on the Breakfront
Each autumn my husband cuts some bittersweet from the hedges in our yard. I love the reds and deep yellows of the berries. It reminds me of hibernating during the cold months. I leave it up all year because I can't bear to part with it until I have more.
Our "Make-Do" Fire Place
We do not have a real fireplace (although we would love to have one if we renovate). Wanting the warmth and effect of one, I bought an electric space heater fireplace our first winter here. I took a simple shelf and hung it under a print to act as a mantle. I even placed patio pavers underneath it to give it the appearance of a hearth. Not bad. It heats the room nicely, too. Bonus!
Grandpa Ernie's Chair Make-Over
The gold fabric on this chair had to go! Who did I call? Grandpa Ernie. My husband's grandfather loves a challenging project. This kept him busy for just under a week. Then it was on to the next project!
Kitchen Counter Displays
I would love to have butcher block counters. Maybe some day I will. Until then I have scattered wooden cutting boards on the work surfaces in my kitchen (all two of them). The star theme is repeated in just about every room of my house.
Here is another example. The sampler in the background hides some of the ugly vinyl backsplash.
Mil's Hutch
This hutch belonged to my husband's late Grandma Mil. I resisted taking this at first. It means so much to my husband, as it was one of Millie's prized posessions. So we took it and I changed out the hardware and now I love it. I keep all sorts of stuff inside it and the display space it great. Plus it is a little piece of Mildred that will reside with us forever!
2008 Impulse Buy
I couldn't resist! Then I got it home and had no idea what to do with it. I improvised! Now it holds cookbooks and table cloths and other little things I have picked up along the way. The cabinet underneath is great for coloring books and crayons. They are always at the ready when my kids want to spend time doing artwork and homework at the table while I work in the kitchen.
Hooray for Home Depot!
This is a souvenir from a monthly event at Home Depot. On the first Saturday of each month, they have a free workshop for kids. They build simple projects. On their first visit they get an apron. On each subsequent visit they get a badge to put on the apron. My son made a little race car with the Home Depot logo on it. He loves the thing! It must be pretty special, as it ranked important enough for him to take the car, badge, and apron into preschool for show and tell. That is an honor he doesn't bestow on just anything. It has to be a real treasure!

Bits of Summer
Finally a good use for empty candle jars: I store my kids beach finds in them. I put shells and pretty rocks in the jar and label it with the name of the beach and the date from which these treasures were taken. The kids love to look at them and the tightly fitting tops keeps the fishy beach smell at bay (where it belongs). They hold a place of honor on the baker's rack and add to the summery ambiance of the porch!
Popcorn Anyone?
Bought these in the dollar section of a chain store, Kids love them. Pair these with microwave popcorn and a movie and it is a little kernel of heaven for them!

Oh how sweet is she!! Her little voice is so precious! I miss hearing those sweet voices at school.
It was fun seeing your pics of the parade too. Great weather for it wasn't it? My DIL was there as well. Were you near Elm Park? I thought I recognized some building in the photo's! LOL

Hi Amy - I don't have any problem with people copying my ideas or furniture or crafts etc. None of my 'ideas' are original! LOL Some bloggers actually took my my pics and used then on their own blogs as if they were showing their own house! LOL Like people wouldn't guess??!! LOL That's why the copyright notice.
That is so cool Jane is going abroad. Good for her!! Jody's kids are so nice and so smart! They have done a great job raising them. I reeealy need to call Jody when I get back from my trip to New Brunswick.
A few years ago, I had a little girl in my class and her mom went to preschool with my son!!! I used to carpool and I drove the mom to preschool once a week. THAT really made me feel old! LOL
