I am lucky enough to have a good friend that I have had forever. And we were lucky to have kids that are right around the same age. We both had our daughters second. It is great to have a friend that you can sound off to about anything and you know that you will not be judged or ridiculed. We both understand that motherhood is not always lovey dovey, warm cookies and milk, singing lullabyes kind of times. It's tough and relentless work. And while the good outweighs the bad by a long shot, the hard times still exist. It is nice to have a friend that gets that.
Now we are grooming our daughters to have that same kind of friendship. Two of her kids were here this evening and I happened to catch a glimpse of the girls playing hairdresser. Her daughter, who also happens to be my Goddaughter, was the hair dresser, and Chelsea was the client. Then they switched. Then they were both hairdressers to their babydolls. They did this for a long time. I didn't hear any complaining or whining from either one (those of you who have girls or deal with little girls on a regular basis know that a whine-free time is a gift in itself). Flash forward MANY years...I can see these two getting ready for the prom together and if I look even farther maybe they will even raise their daughters to be friends, too. Three generations of friends. That would be impressive. For now we can just sit back watch these two act like the princesses they are!
